The barrel vault begins where the pitched roof ends. CFS-S5 works up to sixty metres; beyond that, what carries the span is no longer the depth of a truss but the curvature itself.
The system comes in two steps. CFS-FLEX-L crosses up to sixty-five metres and CFS-FLEX-XL up to eighty metres without columns. Both share the same slender lattice character — what sets XL apart is a deeper truss and a denser network of secondary members.
Here the form is a requirement rather than a preference: instead of a heavy semicircular arch, a slender, lattice-woven vault with a gentle curve is used. Purpose-formed curved sections and bolts with high shear capacity are the two components that make this geometry possible.
The list of uses runs from airport buildings to grain stores, and they share exactly one thing: no columns are wanted anywhere inside.
